Fabergé Arts Foundation sponsored a three-day workshop in St. Petersburg on the adaptive re-use of historic buildings. The participants included American architects and restoration professionals, some of whom participated in the October 2000 training program for six Russian women architects, along with investors and developers from the United States, Russian professionals, and government officials.

New Uses for Old Buildings was co-sponsored by the New York Landmarks Conservancy, the Committee on Inspection and Preservation of Historic Monuments of the St. Petersburg City Administration, and the Fabergé Arts Foundation. Funding for the workshop was provided by the Chauncey & Marion Deering McCormick Family Foundation, the Trust for Mutual Understanding, the Hillsdale Fund, and the U.S. Consulate General in St. Petersburg.
